The OMB-SER488-4 4-channel IEEE to serial converter enables an IEEE controller to command up to four bidirectional RS-232 or RS-422 devices. The unit allows the IEEE controller to access each of the serial ports individually by using a secondary IEEE address for each channel or by using dual-primary addressing. Each port is individually configurable, with parameters such as baud rate, word length, stop bits, and parity individually programmable per channel. The controller can read the status of each channel at any time and determine the number of characters received on the serial port and the status of any error conditions for that channel. A 64K RAM buffer on the OMB-SER488-4 is dynamically allocated for use as a data buffer for all the serial ports. XON/XOFF or CTS/RTS handshaking is also supported. The OMB-SER-488-4 rack-mountable and comes packaged with an internal power supply.
