500 V Isolation Between Input and PC for Safe and Noise-Free Measurements
USB Connection The OM-DAQ-USB-2401 is a portable USB 2.0 full speed thermocouple/voltage input data acquisition module (fully compatible with both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 ports) that can be used with either desktop or laptop PCs. This stand-alone module draws power from the USB port to operate and has 500V isolation to PC. An external power supply (optional) can be used. The compact, modular packaging ensures ease of use in a variety of applications. Units can be DIN rail or wall mounted with the included hardware or easily operated on a bench.
Software Configurable Channels All configurable options (including individual channel input type and range) are software programmable. The OM-DAQ-USB-2401 is user programmable for thermocouple types J/K/T/E/R/S/B/N and voltage input ranges from ±30 mV to ±10V full scale.
Resolution and Speed Even with it's high 24-bit resolution, all analog input channels can be measured sequentially at about 1 ms per channel. A total of 1000 samples per second can be taken, divided across all active channels.*

OMEGA™ DAQ Central Software Data Displays
A free Windows Software Suite that includes the DAQ Central menu driven Windows software is available for download from OMEGA. DAQ Central allows charting, data logging, file storage and virtual instrument viewing (digital meters, dial meters, bar graphs) of data in real time. No programming is required - simply point, click, and drag desired display options to create a virtual display screen. Additionally, for those users who would like to design and develop their own custom application program, the software suite includes a .NET driver for C#, Visual Basic and Visual C++. DAQ Central will run in demo mode allowing you to preview all the different functions in the software. Click on the Software button above to download the DAQ Central software and take a test drive!

Adequate but fragileBasic device does provide USB connection to computer. Software is basic and cumbersome. The device is not robust, recommend unplugging power and USB when not in use.

OM-DAQ-USB-2400 - Beware when using w/ TCsI purchased four of these units (over time) for use with various thermal experiments involving building assemblies (temperature ranged from 0 to 100F). With 8 differential channels on each unit, this model seemed like a bargain and I've always looked to Omega for easy online shopping and competitive prices.
When I started pairing these units together, I noticed pretty significant disagreements between TC readings when calibrating multiple devices at once. This disagreement wasn't resolved with offsets and scaling. I thought my devices needed calibrated, but digging deeper in the specs, I found the combined TC and cold junction compensation error for these units are +/-4F...not good for measurements requiring minimal absolute error, and worse than some of my old Omega handheld loggers. It would have been nice for the specs to provide the total measurement error, with CJC and TC errors together, as other products usually list them.
Using this model for analog voltage signal logging has worked well, on the other hand, and the software is simple and easy to use.
I'm upgrading to a DAQ-2416 to get better accuracy and I hope I can get more out of this unit even though the $$ per TC channel isn't that different from the USB-2400.

Did not live up to expectations. The OM-DAQ-USB-2401 was acquired for the purpose of running 5 to 8 load cells. It was recommended specifically for the job, by an Omega support engineer on the phone support line.
When received, we found that the label on the top, identifying the ports, was 180 degrees off. We also found that the unit is very restricted with regards to excitation current! It is only capable of feeding 2 load cells, not 8.

device works but software is limitedFor my job, I need to connect this device to others in my network, and we only use Linux Systems. Is there some way to config the data acquisition module using standard serial communication?
I did make a program with python that can read serial port, but I not have any response.

Caution: Input volt/current spike can damage 2401The unit is easily damaged if there is a voltage/current spike, this renders the 2401 device useless. This has happened on three of 4 Omega units. Easy to use, but unprotected.
Ex: A suspected voltage spike occurred during DAQ, the unit(s) then began showing erratic thermocouple readings. We restarted all devices and found that the Omega 2401 would not "Configure."
