The ISA-GPIB IEEE-488 interface converts any ISA bus personal computer into an instrumentation control and data acquisition system. Connect up to 14 instruments using standard IEEE-488 cables such as the C488-2M, 2 meter IEEE-488 interface cable. The ISA-GPIB is designed around an industry standard GPIB chip. Equipped with an ISA-GPIB, a personal computer can control GPIB instruments, gather data from GPIB test equipment and become a data acquisition station in a GPIB system. The ISA-GPIB transfers data over the GPIB at rates in excess of 1 million bytes per second using the maximum IEEE-488 specification cable length (2 meters times the # of devices). A 1024 Word FIFO buffer and the advanced REP-INSW ISR transfer method provide all the horsepower required to achieve the highest possible rates. Controlled by OMEGA’s advanced High Speed State Machine Bus Manager, the GPIB chip and FIFO buffer are able to absorb all the information coming from the highest speed instruments. The high speed state machine provides byte-to-word packing and unpacking and since words carry twice the information bytes do, packed data requires fewer bus cycles to transfer the same GPIB information. The ISA-GPIB adheres to ANSI/IEEE Standard 488-1978. Often referred to as the IEEE-488.2 bus, GPIB bus or HP-IB bus, the GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus) is a standard for instrumentation communication and control for instruments from manufacturers the world over. The GPIB provides handshaking and interface communications over an 8 bit data bus employing 5 control and 3 handshake signals. The ISA-GPIB is easy to install. Select a base address, plug in the ISA-GPIB and run the installation software then start communicating. The installation software automatically configures the interrupt level of the ISA-GPIB. The ISA-GPIB does not use DMA in favor of the superior REP-INSW high speed transfer. The ISA-GPIB hardware supports many operating systems and languages. Your programs run without modifications required to the GPIB-Library commands. The language interface is standard for a given language in all operating systems. The GPIB Library includes complete Windows Language programming support. You receive installation software and complete DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT language drivers. The GPIB Library for Windows is a Dynamic Link Library (DLL). It can be used with most Windows programming languages including Microsoft Visual C++ and C, Visual Basic, Borland C/C++, Watcom C and Pascal. The GPIB Library is modeled after the National Instruments Library. As of the time of this writing, the Library is syntactically and functionally identical with the NI-488.2 library. This means that a program written for the NI-488.2 library may be recompiled for the GPIB Library and will compile, run and function without error in exactly the manner it did when compiled and run with the National Instruments software.
