The TC-08 thermocouple data acquisition module is designed to measure a wide range of temperatures using any thermocouple that terminates in a miniature size thermocouple connector. Additionally the TC-08 can also measure other sensors using a ±70 mV range. Featuring built-in cold junction compensation (CJC), the TC-08 has an effective measuring range of -270 to 1820°C (the actual temperature range depends on the thermocouple type being used).

The TC-08 can be used with thermocouple types J, K, T, E, R, S, B and N and outputs can be viewed in degrees F, C or mV. The unit is accurate to 0.2 percent ± 0.5 degrees C and has a resolution of better than 0.1 degrees C for most thermocouple types.

The TC-08 connects to the USB port of a Windows based PC and enables the host PC to automatically detect the TC-08 avoiding the need for any complex setup procedures. The USB connection also allows the TC-08 to be powered directly by the USB bus eliminating the need for an external power supply and making the TC-08 ideal for measuring temperatures both in the lab and in the field.

The TC-08’s USB connectivity allows up to 20 TC-08 USB data acquisition modules to be used simultaneously on one PC making the TC-08 ideal for use as a large multi-channel temperature acquisition system with a cost per channel significantly lower than other systems of this size. The low conversion time of the TC-08 means up to 10 temperature measurements can be taken every second, while the high (20 bit) resolution ensures that the TC-08 can detect minute changes in temperature. With the TC-08 thermocouple data acquisition module your measurements can be made both fast and accurately. Simply plug the TC-08 into a USB port on your computer, connect your thermocouples, and you are ready to measure temperatures.

With the included TC-08 Recorder software, you can configure multiple (USB) TC-08s, set the sampling interval from 0.1 seconds to several hours and set the maximum number of readings. You can also tell TC-08 Recorder what to do once the thermocouple readings have been taken - either: Stop; Repeat Immediately (start again); Scroll (oldest recordings disappear); or Repeat After Delay (where the delay is set by the user). Mathematical operations can also be performed on the thermocouple outputs: for example to output one temperature relative to another.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works OK, requires attention & external grounding You get what you pay for. We found that the unit/system needed to be externally grounded to prevent EMF interference from our process controlled heaters from skewing the readings. The software is easy to use, but you must be attentive because you can't set the software to record indefinitely without overwriting your data. Also, readings are lost if the external computer hibernates or sleeps. We ended up replacing it with a more robust reader system that overcame all these problems, but it cost 7 times as much. If you are willing to live with and work around these problems, it could work for you.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works well with some flaws We use these for performing uniformity surveys of heat treat furnaces. We need 5 thermocouples in each furnace and we do several furnaces at the same time. We plug several of these TC098's into a USB hub to read them all at the same time. When we connect thermocouples that are inserted into different furnaces into the same TC-08 and the temperature gets above about 1,400-F, they do not work. The temperature readings are extremely erratic and bounce around about 300 degrees up and down. Omega tech support was unable to find a solution. But they work well when all thermocouples that are plugged into the TC-08 are in the same furnace.

I have to do a test of 24 hr... How long can I take continuous measurements? Does it have a limit of readings or any capacity restrictions?

We are thinking about deploying the 8-Channel USB Thermocouple Data Acquisition Module into a LabVIEW application for multiple systems due to supply chain issues, but the usbtc08.dll that you have is compiled for 32 bit, and we have to use 64 bit LabVIEW

I need 9 simultaneous thermocouple measurements for the TUSs I perform. If I buy 2 TC-08,s and connect them both to the same computer, will the software be able to recognize, track, and save the temperature data from the thermocouples on both devices?

Does the logger output in standard RS232 format? When the USB plugs in, does it register as a com port, or something proprietary? I have RS232 datalogging software that I'd like to use, rather than the Omega software. The RDXL-SD-Series does this.
