Omega's high accuracy piezoresistive pressure transducers have a proven record in high-performance commercial and aerospace applications for over 25 years. The piezoresistive process uses strain gages molecularly embedded into a highly stable silicon wafer. The silicon wafer is diced into an individual die - each contain a full strain gage bridge. The die is mounted in a sealed chamber protected from the environment by glass to metal seals and a stainless steel diaphragm.

A small volume of silicone oil transfers the pressure from the diaphragm to the strain bridge. The construction provides a very rugged transducer with exceptional accuracy, stability and thermal effects. A unique design ruggedizes the transducers by providing secondary fluid containment in the event of a diaphragm rupture.

At our state-of-the-art facilities, automated test equipment performs pressure and temperature cycling on 100% of the PX409 transducers. The transducers are then calibrated using extremely high accuracy equipment and a 5-point NIST traceable calibration certificate is included with each transducer. To obtain their high accuracy and stability, the PX409 Series use state of the art digital mapping of the temperature, pressure and output performance of the silicon sensor in conjunction with a custom ASIC to provide dynamic thermal compensation across the temperature and pressure parameters. The inherent stability of the piezoresistive core provides excellent long term stability, repeatability and very low thermal effects at the price of much lower performance transducers. Standard features of the PX409 Series also include protective features built into the electronics and the pressure element. Reverse polarity, EMC, and power supply fluctuation protection are standard on all models. For Intrinsically Safe and CSA ratings see model PX509.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great sensor. Need more calibration options. This sensor did just what we needed with a compound range of +/- 15psi, however it was only calibrated in the positive direction from 0 to 15psi with 0 (atmospheric pressure) being 12mA. This is stated deep in the specs page which I missed. The label on the sensor even showed 12-20mA instead of 4-20mA which they admit isn't clear and doesn't match the specs given. I called and was given a good explanation about why they don't calibrate in the negative range since the transition across 0 causes some loss of accuracy. This slight loss of accuracy would have been fine for us and I'd much rather receive a full range calibration... well as far negative as possible since -15 isn't quite practical. So my recommendation is to offer calibration options that include full (or mostly full) range at less accuracy instead of selling a sensor that is by default not calibrated in half it's useful range.

Hello, we need to measure up to 20 Bar pressure absolute. You offer a 17.5 Bar and 30 Bar option. Would the 17.5 Bar sensor report up to 20 Bar, and without causing damage?

Hello, Thank you for contacting Omega Engineering. If you want to measure 20 bar absolute you should not use the 17.5 Bar absolute unit, you may damage the diaphragm. Please go with the 30 bar absolute model. Thank you.

Can the PX409 series be used to measure oil pressure? I cannot find any info stating the acceptable mediums.

When you say accuracy, are you referring to the resolution or the measurement, or the actual measurement accuracy? What are the respective values of each?

Thank you for contacting Omega. The PX409 is a full analog path sensor, meaning it's resolution is essentially infinite. The accuracy we specify details the uncertainty of the output. We specify the combined uncertainty contributed by non-linearity, repeatability, and histories.

Would the 0 to 350 mbar range transducer be accurate enough to read a 1/10 of a mbar? We are mostly interested in looking at absolute pressures ~1/10 to 10 mbar.
