While extremely powerful and versatile, great care has gone into designing a product that is very easy to set-up and use. The automatic hardware configuration recognition eliminates the need for jumpers and allows the firmware to automatically simplify itself, eliminating all menu options that do not apply to a specific configuration. Offered in 1⁄32, 1⁄16, and 1⁄8 DIN sizes, the 1⁄16 and 1⁄8 DIN models can be configured with dual displays, models are available with single and dual 4 digit displays or single 6 digit display.

Each unit allows the user to select the input type from 9 thermocouple type, Pt RTDs, thermistors, DC voltage, or DC current, and Strain & Bridge inputs. The full bidirectional voltage or current inputs are fully scalable to virtually all engineering units, with a selectable decimal point that is perfect for use with pressure, flow, or other process input.

Up to 6 programmable outputs and additional unique features make the PLATINUM Series "The Most Powerful" product in its class. Some of these additional standard features are: remote setpoint for cascaded control set-ups, high-high/low-low alarm functionality, external latch reset, external ramp and soak program initiation, combination heat/cool control mode, configuration save and transfer, and configuration password protection.

An advanced multi-stage ramp and soak sequencer supports up to 99 profiles of 8 segment ramp/soak sequences. Profiles may be linked to provide extended sequences and auxiliary outputs may be triggered based on individual Ramp or Soak states to provide external control over blowers, mixers or other auxiliary control functions.

Embedded Ethernet and Serial Communications
Optional “embedded ethernet” on the 1⁄16 and 1⁄8 DIN models allow the units to connect directly to an Ethernet network and transmit data in standard TCP/IP packets, or serve Web pages over a LAN or the Internet. Optional serial communications are also available configurable as RS232 or RS485, with straightforward ASCII commands or MODBUS®. All three types of communications interfaces can be installed and active simultaneously.

LabVIEW™ Driver
The Platinum LabVIEW™ driver is the National Instrument device driver for communicating with Omega Platinum Controllers via Modbus RTU/ASCII and Modbus TCP protocols. The driver allows easy access to the internal data, configuration settings, and operating functions of the Platinum product family.

The LabVIEW™ instrument driver reduces the application development time and simplifies instrument control. With the Platinum LabVIEW driver, customers can quickly communicate with the instrument and develop robust test applications and software.

DasyLab
Support for the easy-to-use DasyLab software solves complex data acquisition and control problems by allowing you to work with flowcharts directly on your PC screen. The high input accuracy, advanced process control, extended sequencing capability and flexible output options of a Platinum controller may be easily integrated with the rich set of function modules provide by the DasyLab software. The DasyLab software may be integrated thru the Platinum serial, Ethernet or USB connections.

Accessories
Use the optional PT-USB-CABLE for a NEMA4 rated panel mount USB connector. A 12" (304mm) length cable connects from USB port of Platinum controller to your control panel. This accessory includes a protective end cap when not in use.

The PT-USB-ADAPTER, which is supplied with each unit, can be plugged into the controller and be used with a standard USB 2.0 memory stick.

This 1 GB USB thumbdrive has a standard USB connector on one end and a micro-USB connector on the other end. It is convenient for transferring files between your PC and your PLATINUM unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best controller I have a handful of the older i16 and i32 controllers in use already, and am replacing two of those with pt32 (one done, one in progress). The i32 were already very good, with useful features, although a somewhat clunky setup interface (the 4-button menus could make grown men cry). Reliability has been perfect. Communication was a bit of an issue, required going to the larger 1/16 DIN model in some cases. The pt32 has fixed all that. Even when using the four buttons, the setup is now more logical. But the sane way to set them up is to connect them to a laptop and configure them with the Platinum program. Being able to upload and download configurations means that I can finally put the configurations under revision control, and check that the device installed in the system is actually configured correctly. I can also modify configurations offline, without taking the control system down, and then quickly upload them in a quick downtime. Once you have a configuration, it can be quickly adjusted by editing the txt file directly. All very very convenient. With the USB port, the communication problem has been solved. Find something with a USB connector nearby (laptop, industrial controller), either write a few lines of Python or install LabView, and you can chat with the controller. I'm now using the controller as an A-D converter for computer analysis of the process too. Very cool, low cost, convenient. Speaking of cost: The Newport/Omega controllers have never been cheap, but worth their price. If you need a simple low-feature controller, buy something else. The few times I've talked to tech support (in Santa Ana), they've been very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable. My only complaint is: In one case I need four setpoints and four outputs from a single input; while it is theoretically possible to get this many outputs (not clear it can be ordered in a 1/32 DIN, that would be model -444-776), there are not four setpoints available. So this needs to be handled by using two controllers. Expensive, but works great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very difficult to use THS S HW YU PRGM AN OMGA CNTRLR. This is 2017. Why does the 'Platinum' temp controller have a 1980s user interface? The USB port is an afterthought in a terrible location. It would not stay connected to my computer. The software does not run in Windows 10, and is not supported by Omega. Omega makes a lot of good products, but this is not one of them. We sent the unit back.
