Can load be applied over the entire face of the load cell or is there a certain area on the face that must receive load?

Thank you for your inquiry. That load cell should be loaded only on the inner raised lip or with a load button installed Hope this was helpful?

how is the load cell mounted? are the holes on the outer edge used to mount to a surface or can a rod be connected on the UNF thread from both ends, in order to allow for push or pull? are there any mounting instructions you can provide?

The outer holes are used surface mount the load. The load in then applied via the center threaded hole. the only way use the load for in line load measurement is to bolt it to a tension plate using the mounting holes. You can the thread a rod ends into the load cell and into the tension plate. Information on the tension plate is shown on the pdf datasheet for the LC402 load cell

Does this load cell measure Fx, Fy, Fz, Mx, My, Mz or does it only measure one value?
