Product Specs

Polyimide Film insulated (also known as Kapton ) flexible heaters are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, and wattages. Wattage ratings are 2.5, 5, or 10W/in2 at 115 or 28 V. Polyimide Film offers a high degree of resistance to chemicals. Flexible nature can fit into Intrinsic voids & can be applied very Easily

Operating temperature without PSA is -57°C to 150°C, and with PSA, these heaters operate at temperatures between -40°C and 149°C.

Typical construction consists of an etched foil element of 0.0005" or 0.0001" thickness which is encapsulated between two layers of 0.002" Polyimide Film and 0.001" FEP adhesive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great adhesive and quick heatup! I bought this for a project at our company, and it does exactly what it was intended for. The adhesive sticks to what is desired very easily, and it does not want to peel off, even with lots of heat cycling. The heaters also seem to get up to temp fairly quickly. So these heaters are excellent if you want good heating times!

1. Does the Polyimide Flexible heater p/n KHLVA-101-10-P use the same adhesive backing as the SA1-RTD? 2. What is the projected lifetime of the adhesive? 3. Is a conductive epoxy recommended in addition to the pressure sensitive adhesive?

The two adhesives are not the same but similar. The life of the adhesive depends on the environment in which they are used. If they do not exceed the rated temperature and there are no contamination, in theory, the adhesive should last a very long time. No data to provide. You can also use a thermally conductive epoxy for additional adhesion.

Can I hook this product to 2--- 12V car batteries for 24V? Is there a thermostat that I could use to control the temperature with this setup?

You can hook batteries in series to get the Voltages to add up to 24 VDC and use the KHLVA series Heaters. The explanation of power reduction is in Jane's answer above from a year ago. There are Thermal switches that can be used to switch power on and off so visit our website to review the TSW and CCD101 products.

Can the KHLVA heaters be used with 24 Vdc?

Yes this Heater can be used @ 24 Vdc but power will be proportionate from 28 V. Getting Power value to calculate resistance R=V^2/P (V=28 V, P specified in spec sheet) not calculating Power at 24 V. New power at 24 volt P’= V’^2/R ( where V’=24 volt, R is resistance value derived from the previous calculation). Please contact our Tech Support if you need any further assistance. Thank you.

Can this heater be safely immersed in water while operating?

I see that you calculate the proportional power from 28 to 24 VDC but the datasheet specifies 28 VAC. Can these be used with DC?

Can you provide any info on the silicone used for the strain relief? I am trying to determine if these are vacuum (ASTM E595) compliant.

Thank you for connecting with Omega, Our Polyimide flexible heaters are not rated for vacuum applications. Unfortunately they are not compliant with ASTM E595.

Can these strips be reused? - looking at transferring the strip our applications has finished the heating cycle

The Pressure Sensitive adhesive is meant to be a permanent attachment and if you wish to remove and use these heaters again you should look at the non PSA version and attaching by mechanical means.
