The FDT-25W ultrasonic flow meter is designed to measure the fluid velocity of liquid within a closed conduit. The transducers are a non-contacting, clamp-on type, which will provide benefits of non-fouling operation and easy installation. The FDT-25W transit-time flow meter utilizes two transducers that function as both ultrasonic transmitters and receivers. The transducers are clamped on the outside of a closed pipe at a specific distance from each other. The transducers can be mounted in V-method where the sound transverses the pipe twice, or W-method where the sound transverses the pipe four times, or in Z-method where the transducers are mounted on opposite sides of the pipe and the sound crosses the pipe once. This selection of the mounting method depends on pipe and liquid characteristics. The flow meter operates by alternately transmitting and receiving a frequency modulated burst of sound energy between the two transducers and measuring the transit time that it takes for sound to travel between the two transducers. The difference in the transit time measured is directly and exactly related to the velocity of the liquid in the pipe. The FDT-25W can be used for metallic, plastic and rubber tubes. Applications include Running Water, HAVC, Water Conservation, Metallurgy, Chemical Industry, Machinery, Energy.

FDT25W comes complete with:
1 ea. Wall Mounted Ultrasonic Flow Meter
2 ea. Standard Clamp on Transducers for Pipe Sizes 3/4" to 4"
1 ea. Hexagonal Wrench
2 ea. Steel clamps
1 ea. Acoustic gel for Standard Transducers
Transducers for larger pipe sizes and extended temperature ranges are available in the Accessories Section for an additional charge.

We would like to test mount the transducers on multiple locations along the pipe before selecting the final measurement location. Is enough acoustic gel provided to remount the transducers 3-4 times?

Asked by: Brandon B
Thank you for your inquiry! In this case it would be recommended to purchase additional gel as having a sufficient amount is very important in obtaining accurate readings. Extra gel can be found with the part number STDGEL under the accessories tab.

Is the FDT-25W qualified to any Electromagnetic standards (CISPR 22/32, EN61326-1, FCC Part 15, etc.)? I have some sensitive equipment near where this might go. My gut is that it won't create a problem, but it would be nice to know.

Asked by: Alex N
Thank you for your inquiry on the ultrasonic flow meter. Unfortunately, there is no documentation or rating for Electromagnetic standards available for this flow meter.

I am looking to move Nitric Acid throughout my facility in a 1" PVC conduit. Will the FDT-25W meter work in my application?

Asked by: Dan Maliniak
Thank you for your inquiry about the ultrasonic flow meter. A concentrated nitric acid will not be suitable since the sound speed and viscosity may be too viscous for the ultrasonic sound wave to pas thru.

what is the thermistor type that is used for monitoring the temperature? on page 12 of the manual is says connect PT100. is this in parallel to the thermistor?

Asked by: Winnipeg Customer
Thank you for your inquiry! The FDT-25W can accept a 3 wire 100 ohm RTD input. This temperature sensor is optional and will not be included with the unit.

FDT-25W Is it Suitable for "Bitumen" ?

Asked by: Sameh
Thank you for your inquiry about the ultrasonic flow meter. Unfortunately, the FDT-25W sensor will not be suitable to measure Bitumen. The FHG-1000 series positive displacement flow meter would be more suitable a high viscous liquid.

What meter would you recomend for a 30" pipe with 1500 NTU water? The FT-25W or the FD-410? The FT-25W would better for us since it has the rS485 output

Asked by: icolmenares
Thank you for your inquiry. For clean liquid applications, the Transit Time ultrasonic flow meter is recommended and the FDT-25W wall mount is a good choice. Also, you will need a separate transducer, STD-WL, for larger pipe diameters.

Carbon pipe,diam1.43m,thickness 7.4mm,mounting spacing M25 indicate 0.67mm. The signal in 0.67m was poor; then we moved sensors to 0.45m were Q is good 87,but we think that flowrate is wrong. Will mounting spacing should be 0.67m always like indicated?

Asked by: luisgalo
Thank you for your inquiry! The transducers should be as close to the recommended spacing as possible while still having a signal strength of 50 or above. Please check to ensure that all other parameters are properly selected in the submenus. Additionally, the pipe surface may need to be polished to obtain better signal strength at the recommended distance.

I can always read thru a 250 mil beaker of solution even at its dirtiest. Will transit time work?

Asked by: Chuck B
Thank you for your inquiry about the Transit Time ultrasonic flow meter. Transit Time works best when the liquid is clean or below 100 microns in particle size AND less than 100 ppm in concentration. In the event there is some suspended particles, it will not detect it since it is very small.
