The HHSL-101 is a low-cost, compact, battery powered sound level meter capable of unattended logging (recording) of the decibel level of an environment for days, weeks or months. Data logging can be started or stopped by pushing a button on the unit, eliminating the need to bring a laptop to the job site.
The HHSL-101 is ideal for monitoring environmental and industrial noise as well as for measuring decibel levels during acoustical design and sound system setups
After a data log has been captured and stored, it can be uploaded as a .txt file to any PC running Windows® XP, Windows® 7 or Windows® 8 operating system after plugging the HHSL-101 into a computer’s USB port. The HHSL-101 has internal flash memory that is large enough to store up to 32,000 data points. Software is included with the product—which is slightly larger than a thumb drive—that can display a data log file as a table or graph and/or export it to Microsoft Excel®. Exporting to Excel is recommended for sophisticated trending and analysis of sound level data and easy detection of unexpected excursions.

Very disappointed, especially for an Omega. In the past, our company has purchased many of Omegas products with great, and very long success. I never thought, that when I purchased the HHSL-101 to check machine decibel levels, that I would get anything less than what I got in the past; man, was I wrong and disappointed. Lets start off with the manual that was included with the unit, I can sum it up in in one word: useless! It was 7 page of common sense, and "well, duh". The only use I found for it was as a coffee coaster. The software that was included wasn't even good enough to be used as a coffee coaster. I recorded some basic sound, and when I tried to download the data, a message popped up every time saying: The instrument is turned off, switch it on, and then press the [DOWNLOAD}. I even tried to use different computers, and operating software (Window 7, and Windows XP). I called Omega several times for support, and after talking to several different engineers, no one was able to help, NO ONE! This told me that the support engineers wasn't even sure how to make it work. I had to return the first one I got because one engineer thought the unit was broke, but after getting the replacement, I came to the realization that it was design broke. The product is so bad, I can't even give it the proper rating. Omega, as a long time customer, I am very disappointed that you would let this product get out the door and on the market without doing better testing.

Takes some research, but then easy to use.I bought this about a year ago. I had to do some digging because the manual wasn't that helpful.
You have to use the software to "set up" the dosimeter each time before it can record.
Once it has been "set up", you hold the yellow button down until it says LOG and then it is recording.
Once you are done recording, you hold the yellow button down until it says CON and then it will stop recording.

Poor Product that is not well thought outI bought this to get sound decibel levels of trucks near my house. The meter lacks anything that indicates to you when it is recording data. The single button control makes it difficult to control or even setup. The software did not work, I tried to transfer recorded data and could not. I honestly couldn't event tell if it recorded data. Product needs a lot of refinement. I would not recommend to anyone. I will be returning this to get my money back.
Is a newer version of the software going to be released that works with Windows 10?

Is the software and instrument compatible with window 10 and 11?

The Software for the HHSL-101 is compatible for up to Windows OS 7/8. It may work in newer versions if you run in back compatible mode but it has not been tested.

Why does the LCD screen go blank after 5 minutes of measuring? I've tried every permutation of buttons but get the same result.

The LCD power off when not recording is expected, there is no way to forgo that. This HHSL-101 is designed as a data logging unit, meant to be placed in an area and left unviewed for a period of time and then the data can be pulled from that recording session for viewing on the PC. This unit is not intended to be used for just live viewing.
