The CN740 Series temperature controllers offer accurate temperature measurement and control in a 1/16 DIN package. Designed for direct or reverse acting (cooling or heating) control, the CN740 Series can be programmed for simple ON/OFF or more complex PID control functions. PID control is supported with manual or autotuning. Select relay, DC pulse or current output for control methods. The CN740 Series accepts a variety of thermocouple and RTD inputs. Process value and set-point value are displayed simultaneously on the large dual LED. Auto-tuning, engineering units (°F or °C), and alarm status is also indicated on the faceplate. Two alarm outputs are included on the unit with 12 preprogrammed alarm functions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CN740 Series Temperature Controller Omega, I recently perched a PID Temperature Controller, model CN745, in a 1/16 DIN package form you and found it to be a very good product at a reasonable price. I am very happy with it. Thanks again. Mike Carpenter

What is manual control mode? Does auto tune mean P,I,D values will be determined by device itself?

Asked by: Hero
Manual mode is used when you have an analog output option Controller. It allows you to select the percentage of the low or high output range to be delivered to the load.

I'm confused what the "relay" output means. Does that mean that I do not need a separate solid state relay? My understanding was to use this and connect the output to a SSR, however I am now now sure

Asked by: BigFatBunny
Thank you for your inquiry! The answer will depend on if your load pulls over the maximum current rating for the CN743's relay, which is 5A. If your load pulls under 5A, you will not require an SSR. Application Engineer CK

Can the software in this device ramp up or down the temperature depending on the time I set it to? Or is this just a simple turn on / off software ?

Asked by: Engineer_55
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, this unit does not have the ramp & soak feature. Refer to its counterpart CN7800 that does.

Does the CN 743 have a built in relay? Do you need a Solid state relay to operate this model?

Asked by: BAMA HEAT
The CN743 has a Single Pole Single throw built in relay for Output 1 and additional alarm relays. It is rated at 5 Amps at 240 VAC so can directly be used with moderate size loads directly.

For the CN745, I did not see an "Output" option in the Communication Parameters List. Does this exist?

Asked by: NEXT
Thank you for the inquiry. Please forward this question to TEMP@OMEGA.COM so that we can better support you. Best regards OMEGA

Is the relay output just a simple on/off signal? Is the DC Pulse a PWM signal, and, if so, what is the duty cycle and frequency range?

Asked by: ajrs
Hi AJRS, Both relay and pulse outputs can be used as PID control. Output is based on cycle time not PWM and is set by user. Cycle time down to 1 second is available. But fastest relay cycle time should limited to 7 to 10 seconds. Best regards

for CN745, the product does require any solid state relay? I am not sure that in case of current output control any solid state relay is required. Could you recommend any solid state relay or items which are required to be purchased with the CN745?

Asked by: Wonsang
Output #1 is an analog control output that can be programmed using the PID tuning parameters.to control your process. You can either manually tune the PID values, or use Auto tune providing the process is for temperature and you have a set point at least 100 degrees (C or F) above your starting ambient temperature.
